LAPAROSCOPIC PROCEDURES

Laparoscopic Surgery is a minimally invasive or scarless approach to the common surgical problems in the abdomen. Many surgical problems that traditionally were performed through large incisions are now accomplished through small keyhole incisions which give much less post-operative pain, less surgical trauma and excellent cosmesis!

Main advantages are:

  • Less post operative pain
  • Less postoperative stay
  • Less complications
  • Short post operative recovery
  • Early return to work
  • Smaller incisions
  • Better cosmesis

In laparoscopic surgery, a telescope(of different viewing angles) is introduced in the abdomen and the surgery is performed with specialized small and long instruments.

An equipment called Harmonics scalpel makes the operation practically bloodless to make the advanced laparoscopic procedures easy and quick.

Almost all abdominal(and thoracic) operations now can be performed through this newer techniques.

The common surgeries performed are:

1) Diagnostic Laparoscopy

  • In case of intractable pain in the abdomen
  • To take biopsy of lymph nodes or other lumps

2) Laparoscopic Adhesiolysis

In cases where intestines or other intra abdominal organs / structures are adherent or stuck to each other, causing sever pain or obstructive symptoms like vomiting etc. , because of previous surgery or some pathology, we can remove the adhesions and separate them Laparoscopically

3) Laparoscopic Appendicectomy

Three punctures are made in the lower abdomen and appendix is removed. The patient is home in 1-2 days depending on the recovery.

4) Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (Gall Bladder removal)

We use a three puncture method routinely for removal of Gall Bladder with stones. The patient is in the hospital for 1-2 days and fully fit to work within a week.

5) Laparoscopic Intestinal surgery

  • For diagnosis and biopsy
  • For removal in pathology like Tuberculosis,Cancer etc.

6) Laparoscopic Hernia
Hernia is a weakness of the abdominal wall which has to be corrected surgically. We insert a mesh through the laparoscopic technique which gives no incision and the recovery is within 1-2 days.

7) Laparoscopic Hiatus Hernia Repair
Hiatus Hernia is a condition where the Stomach and intra abdominal organs protrude into the chest. This now is done laparoscopically avoiding the huge incisions on the abdomen.

8) Gynaecological procedures

  • Diagnostic-pain,infertility etc.
  • Tubal Ligation for contraception / family planning
  • Ectopic Pregnancy
  • Ovarian Cyst Removal
  • Endometriosis
  • Hysterectomy (Uterus removal)

9) Obesity / Bariatric Surgery
Gross obesity can be taken care of by surgical correction through laparoscopic technique.
