Ductoscopy is an endoscopic examination of the ducts of the Breast from within i.e. intraluminal examination. Most of the cancers of the Breast arise from the ducts. The examination is done in cases with nipple discharge and patients who are at a high risk of developing malignancy e.g. positive family/ genetic history.
It is done as an outdoor procedure, under local anaesthesia, with a thin endoscope( 0.9 to 0.75 mm diameter). It is a good diagnostic tool.Biopsy can also be taken if there is a growth or mass and even removal of papillomas is possible.
